I love to bake old fashioned tasting recipes, and cinnamon rolls is one of my favorites. But, the kids like the more cakey textured ‘whop ‘em’ kind of cinnamon rolls compared to the bready yeasty tasting ones my grandma used to make. So enter, stage left, Sis’s Cinnamon Rolls. Oh Rhoda, they’re slap yer mama good. I don’t care who you are, they even passed the grueling ‘W’ test.
Here’s how you do it.
1 box yellow cake mix
5 Cups Flour
2 Packages Yeast (I use rapid rise)
2 1/2 Cups Warm Water
Mix well. Spray with spray oil or rub oil on top and cover with a towel and let rise two hours. Turn out on floured surface, knead, roll out into a gigantic rectangle or square. Melt one stick butter and pour half of the butter onto dough, and divide the remaining into two 9×13 pans. Spread butter all over the dough, then sprinkle a mixture of (1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 white sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon) evenly over the butter. Roll-up from long end, cut in 1-inch slices and put into 9×13 pans. Cover and let rise 30 minutes or until double. Bake 20-25 minutes in a 400 degree oven until light brown. When I pull them out of the oven I like to take some butter and rub over the top before I drizzle icing.
Icing: I don’t really measure my icing. But here’s my best guess… I take around 1 cup of sifted powered sugar, 1 teaspoon maple flavoring (or vanilla or both), and a splash of milk and stir until all the lumps are gone and is thin enough to drizzle. Or open on a dad gum can of vanilla frosting and a frost when cool. Whatever makes you happy.
This recipe could end all wars, stop a failing economy and make you a domestic rock star. I’m telling you, my little Rhodas, it’s fresh cooked! (Who’s Rhoda? Click here to find out.)
Barney brought this piece back and said, “I need to trade this one in for a new one.”
Simply,
Sis

Thanks, I like it cause it’s simple, like me. Hope you enjoy as much as we do.
Many Blessings.

Hey, I’ll have to try your recipe sometime. I make my bread homemade from sweet roll dough(cinnamon roll dough). It is a simple yeast recipe I have made for 25 years. I have changed the recipe a little and use wheat flour with my better for bread flour. We usually have hot rolls and cinnamon rolls for desert. It makes awesome bread bowls for a soup kinda night also. My family loves it. I’ll let you know how it turns out. I enjoy reading your stories.
