So it’s June already. Vacation is over. Wheat harvest will be starting soon. My garden is starting to produce. Producing lettuce, radishes, onions, snap peas, herbs and weeds. Well, kinda on the herbs and bingo was he nameo on the weeds.
Let me show ya what I mean. This is where we started.

That was February or March and we were getting the dirt on this garden thing. Then we made a plan.

Then we decided my tomatoes needed a pedicure worst than me. So we soaked our tomatoes feet (instead of mine) in Epsom Salt. Wahhh. Which reminds me, it’s time to do that again.
Now, we are in the midst of watering, weeds and produce. Isn’t this fun? When I say in the middle of weeds, I mean it. This is my flower, herb garden (with okra and squash in the back). Only half of the herbs I planted came up. Not that you can tell for all the dad-gum grass that is taking over. Ah shucks,I’d hate for you to think I am perfect.
I could make all sorts of excuses, but the truth is, I’m a lazy gardener. I can hardly wait until they cut the wheat, the left over straw will give me something to mulch with. Then kids and I won’t have to weed and life will be good again.
This are my potatoes on steroids, which I planted too close to the broccoli. Oh well. I’ll dig the right side first when my peas are ready and we’ll have fresh creamed peas and new potatoes. Help me Rhoda, it will be good.
And have I mentioned the bunnies? My fence isn’t working with all the rain. The birds know this is a no fly zone…the rabbits however, are being difficult.
I had an old grandma neighbor that used to get an evil look in their eye and say “It doesn’t take much to wring their scrawny little necks.” Then she would catch herself and go back into her normal church lady voice. Did I mention gardeners take this stuff seriously?
I’m not that hard core, but I do live with some valiant and brave soldiers, who love to ‘brotect’ me. So if you’re listening you waskelly wabbits…your days are numbered.
Moving on. My beans are looking good and so are the climbers, cucumbers on one side of the fence and peas on the other.
Whew. I think it’s time for a salad. If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em. Right?
How does your garden grow?
Simply,
Sis

your garden looks great! Mine is HORRIBLE right now— between the hail, crop duster, and 50- 40 degree weather all week I am thinking it just is not growing at all.
I might have to come raid your canned goods this year!
Heck, if it keeps growing like it has…you better come raid my canned goods. But, you know how it goes…the weather is always a huge gamble. I’m glad I don’t have to make my living farming.
You’re the second person I’ve talked to where the crop duster and hail got theirs.
So sorry. I’ll share.
Sis
Wow, it looks really good Sis. It puts my poor widdle garden to shame.
I’m going to need some tomato plant supports pretty soon, though.
Should I thin my pepper plants yet. They don’t SEEM to be crowding one another, but maybe it would help??? I’m such a first-timer.
