Oh my little Rhoda’s my garden is getting fat. Better it, than me. Right?! Anyway it’s time to harvest a few things. I’ve already harvested my radishes.
Ding, dang, dong. They were HOT. So this time I think I’ll harvest lettuce. I need something to go with those radishes to cool them off.
The first thing I do is cut the lettuce with a knife or kitchen shears and take it to the sink or bowl and run water over it.
After I get most of the sand and gravels off (oh hush I know, spell check hates me and I’m okay with that). I put ice in my water and let it sit for a few minutes.
*This really helps settle the dust, so to speak.*
Then I put it in a salad spinner. If you don’t have one, get one. (I bought this one at a garage sale for a dollar. A premium, cause the woman wouldn’t jew down. But, I tried. Thanks for asking.)
Salad spinners really are a gardeners friend. You have to wash behind your produce’s ears and in the cracks, and nothing gets water off better in my opinion.
So buy, beg or steal one and give it a spin.
W used to put Sheriff Woody in mine and spin him dizzy. Kept him busy for hours. At least I can be thankful it wasn’t Deputy Barney.
When it’s done, it will look like this.
Tah-Dah! You’re ready to have a garden salad at a fraction of the price.
God help me, Rhoda. If Ben wasn’t such a stud, I might run off with a salad spinner.
I’m so dizzy, my head is spinnin’!

Pretty nice post. I just came by your blog and wanted to say
that I’ve really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your blog and I hope you post again soon!
Well thank you, Katy. Please do subscribe to the RSS feed. Makes it handy that a way. If you need a good laugh type in SINthia in the search box, that way you can meet my evil twin. Please keep in mind I don’t pay for people needing help when they leave.
And…THANK YOU for visiting and commenting. Blessings. Sandhill Sis
I just cleaned some lettuce tonight too — only I dont have that fancy schmancy spinner thingy… I had to do it all by hand the boring way!
Garden in starting to finally look like a garden here! Thanks to about 2 weeks of rain every night and some hot weather!
Fancy Schmancy…that sure does describe me! Thats for sure.
Tea towels work great, too. Lord knows I spent the first 20 years using those.
I’m glad your garden is recovering from the hail. We’ve had some hail just miss us and hit those poor folks living south of us. Dang it. You’re vacation is coming up, isn’t it? Hope you have great time.
Love.
