<p>Oh my little Rhoda&#8217;s my garden is getting fat. Better it, than me. Right?! Anyway it&#8217;s time to harvest a few things. I&#8217;ve already harvested my radishes.</p>
<p><img title="Radishes." src="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1413.JPG" alt="Radishes." width="400" height="300" /></p>
<p>Ding, dang, dong. They were HOT. So this time I think I&#8217;ll harvest lettuce. I need something to go with those radishes to cool them off.</p>
<p>The first thing I do is cut the lettuce with a knife or kitchen shears and take it to the sink or bowl and run water over it.</p>
<p>After I get most of the sand and gravels off (oh hush I know, spell check hates me and I&#8217;m okay with that). I put ice in my water and let it sit for a few minutes.</p>
<p><a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1479.JPG"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1275" title="Fresh lettuce with ice water." src="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1479.JPG" alt="Fresh lettuce with ice water." width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p> *<a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/2009/04/washing-away-the-dust/" target="_blank">This really helps settle the dust</a>, so to speak.*</p>
<p>Then I put it in a salad spinner. If you don&#8217;t have one, get one. (I bought this one at a garage sale for a dollar. A premium, cause the woman wouldn&#8217;t jew down. But, I tried. Thanks for asking.)</p>
<p>Salad spinners really are a gardeners friend. You have to wash behind your produce&#8217;s ears and in the cracks, and nothing gets water off better in my opinion.</p>
<p>So buy, beg or steal one and give it a spin.</p>
<p><a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1485.JPG"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1276" title="Give it a spin." src="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1485.JPG" alt="Give it a spin." width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/2009/03/is-lego-building-a-sport/" target="_blank"> W</a> used to put Sheriff Woody in mine and spin him dizzy. Kept him busy for hours. At least I can be thankful it wasn&#8217;t <a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/2009/02/the-felon-that-didnt-go-to-jail/" target="_blank">Deputy Barney</a>.</p>
<p>When it&#8217;s done, it will look like this.</p>
<p><img title="Lettuce, spun out." src="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1488.JPG" alt="Lettuce, spun out." width="400" height="300" /></p>
<p>Tah-Dah!  You&#8217;re ready to have a garden salad at a fraction of the price.</p>
<p><a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1494.JPG"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1277" title="Lettuce." src="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_1494.JPG" alt="Lettuce." width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>God help me, <a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/2009/02/thats-fresh-cooked-rhoda/" target="_blank">Rhoda</a>. If Ben wasn&#8217;t <a href="http://reclaimsimplicity.com/2009/04/if-the-woman-is-still-alive-at-the-end-of-the-song/" target="_blank">such a stud</a>, I might run off with a salad spinner.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m so dizzy, my head is spinnin&#8217;!</p>
