It takes skill to be a mom. Like any skill, you have to learn it. I’ve had some great teachers.

My Mom is one of the most grace filled, unconditional love-giving person I know. She loved me enough to let me make some hard mistakes. Coming along side me, to help pick up the broken pieces in life when my choices proved devastating. I have no doubt the love she has shown me is the closest thing to God’s love I’ll find this side of heaven.

I want to be just like her.

As if that alone isn’t enough…God gave me another mother. Ben’s Mom.

I love her as if she had raised me. She’s the one I call when I want to shop, have had a bad haircut or need a girlfriend. She has shared family recipes, traditions and secrets with me; in-trusting their goodness in my care until I can pass them on to my daughter-in-laws someday. With her welcoming embrace she has woven me snugly into the tapestry of Ben’s family. There is no doubt this is my God given place in life.

I want to be just like her.

I have that chance. The Lord has blessed me with: two healthy sons whose smell intoxicate me into the highest heaven, the greatest love of my life, their father, and a old farm house to make a home to nurture this abundance. For all that I am thankful.

May you be richly blessed this Mother’s Day.
